Our culture wants us to be isolated individuals looking out primarily for ourselves, probably in part because that strategy is so effective in helping to keep people from organizing and changing things in their own corner of the world, on their own. We've grown up to think that it's a bad idea to live close to our friends and relatives, that it's a bad idea to work with people you're close to, and that it's especially a bad idea to help each other financially. That is all bullshit."
