The Myth of Job Creators
As you know, I have been clearing down unwanted cedar trees in my backyard to make more sunlight and space for the garden and fruit trees.
While processing the fallen cedar into construction beams, firewood, kindling and compost piles, I had the boys separate out a few HUNDRED of these air plants that are common here in Austin.
I noticed a couple of weekends ago at the Great Outdoors Nursery that they sell these for $3-$7 EACH! So I figured if the boys collected several hundred, maybe they would pay $0.05 or $0.10 for a few dozen of the larger nicer ones.
Welp, they only took 20 seconds to tell me, nope they don't need them. No trading for value. Don't want them for free even. Yep, I should just go ahead and take them home and compost them.
While disappointed that their labor went unrewarded, it was an excellent lesson about current affairs. Businesses DO NOT create jobs. Customers (large and small) create demand, and businesses fulfill that demand as cheaply as possible.
Here was a great example of build it and they will come failing!
Demand is the key.
