Compared to a year ago, I am so much more productive at work. I have time to create design documents, pull SQL queries, write client and server side code, create game content and have great product and company conversations with the Bee Cave Games team.
On top of all of the work productivity, I have never had so much quality time at home - building things, cooking, brewing, crafts - playing minecraft. Or go sailing and other adventures. And of course time for political rants on facebook!
I think often of the big tech company vs. the small tech company and no matter if it is Zynga or Microsoft or facebook I hear the same reports of too much email, too much politics, to much cya and way too many meetings.
I would like to see a world where a tech company would not grow larger than 100 people before creating true spinoffs. I admire supercell a lot, and we opened our structure at BCG with tons of autonomy and I look forward to our first fully autonomous team. But besides just autonomous teams, I look forward to seeing even leaner and meaner start-ups globally grabbing marketshare here and market share there.
Unlike big box retailers, in the tech world there is a lot more room for a smaller company to break out, and the tools keep getting better, e.g. cloud computing.
I wonder if these tech advances can make it back to the brick and mortar shops? Or have they already? I live in Austin that puts a high premium on buying local and there is not that much of the national brands that I interact with daily. And back in SF I lived in the east bay that also had a premium on local.
What trends are you guys seeing? I believe your most powerful act politically is how you spend your money. Are you buying more locally/small owned or going for more big box? Do you feel like it is easier to build your own shops now or harder than 10 years ago?
