As long as we are going to repeal ACA....
...let's just look at the math:
We spend about 20% of our GDP on the healthcare industry while the rest of the G20 averages around 10%. Even though we pay 2x more than everyone else, we have lower life expectancy.
These are the only two numbers that you need to review a nation's healthcare system.
We pay 2x more, and we get less service.
Why would you pay $8 a gallon for gasoline that was full of dirt and caused needless wear on your engine and extra costs to maintain? That would be silly.
20% of our $15 trillion dollar economy is $3 trillion dollars of spending.
If we had single payer / universal healthcare we all would save $1.5 trillion dollars, and we would live longer. Not to even mention the soft benefits of getting rid of medical caused bankruptcies, people waiting until they have an emergency room level problem and all that liberal feel-good crap.
We would save $1.5 trillion dollars.
You, and me, and your family and your friends.
Unlike taxes, healthcare is like owing money to the mob, you will pay. And you will continue to pay until you have nothing left. Then you die.
What could we do with $1.5 trillion dollars. Every year?
Even between Zubrin and Musk they do not have the imagination of how to spend $1.5 trillion every year.
If you are rich, there never was, and never will be somebody who will stop you from buying extra premium services. Japan, Korea, France, and so on all have fancy doctors happy to take rich people's money.
Where is this $1.5m going come from? Can we afford universal healthcare? No! Slap! We already are paying a 20% shadow tax to the healthcare industry. That is just silly. Cut it to 10%, have medicare for everyone. And again, if you don't like it, spend your own money for whatever luxury care you want.
$1.5 trillion a year:
Full funding for NASA, Zubrin and SpaceX – call it an extra $100b a year in space development.
You still have $1.4 trillion left over.
Spend $50 billion a year and we get to have universal 4 years of college too.
Still have $1.35 trillion left over.
Okay everyone increases their take-home pay by ~8.5%
Who loses?
The shareholders and CEOs of insurance companies and big pharma. Who cares? They are just rent seekers who are extracting wealth from our society without a value add. Doctors, nurses and pharmacists do the work and it is not like the insurance companies are in the habit of giving out raises to doctors.
We lose nothing.
We gain $1.5 trillion.
Every year.
