Here are some pictures from yesterday's martial arts tournament that Max, Kyle and I participated at with all the amazing people of Elite Martial Arts. Many thanks to the Pratt Karate Club for hosting this great event.
This was a team event split by age divisions. Point sparring, light contact 90 second rounds, double elimination.
* Max's team 2nd
* My team 2nd
* Kyle's team took 1st in the regular bracket and then advanced to take 2nd in the championship round.
Max I give huge credit to getting back onto the floor and fighting an excellent round after taking two heavy hits, one of which sent him to the floor face first and some good optical blood on the face. He pulled himself together and fought really solid and helped secure that 2nd place. (I think his opponent was ~ 110# vs Max's 60# and a solid 12 inches taller.)
Kyle had a stunning 8 points in 60 seconds at the first bracket. It was crazy how easy he was after just a bit of chatting from sensei.
As for myself, I won 2/3rds of my fights. The 3rd I came in close at 8-7. My opponent was really good, he never gave me any time to think for the counter attacks I like to do. I can blame my sprained knee for a lack of maneuverability, but he was still a better fighter than I was *yesterday* - but not *tomorrow*. :-)

By February, that tournament grit had translated into red, brown, and purple belts — and a torn ACL that couldn't slow them down.
Max is leading the family at *red* belt
The 2016 rematch where the boys went 20-4 and Dad's near-choke became the real story.
Had a lot of fun at the PKC Individual Tournament of 2016
