I have been pondering the two weird facts:
1) We spend $1T a year to fight terrorism (we do not have a realistic concern that Canada or China is going to invade us)
2) We have lost < 4,000 souls in the USA to foreign terrorism in the last 15 years
3) Climate change has broken the agriculture an economy of much of the ME
4) There is no way that we are going to suddenly want to buy flat screen TVs made in Syria or Iraq or Afghanistan.
5) The number of failed states around the world will increase as technological productivity increases
6) There is no existential cost to never-ending war, and in fact it stimulates the economy (inefficiently) and it makes some wealthy even more wealthy
7) It is so easy to exploit xenophobia and hate mongering that we can get people in Kentucky to hate heath care for themselves - imagine how much more easy is it to maintain the hate against Muslims
8) Terrorists are relatively incompetent. We kill far more of their civilians and we do not lose much of our own.
9) So I guess things will not change much.
10) Wait, this has been going on since WW2. No wait WW1. No wait since the beginning of class-based societies.
11) We will need a benevolent dictator of enormous power to offset the runaway algorithm of fascism.
12) It looks like it is going to be Elon Musk. He is going to disrupt and own the allocation of energy and transportation, after that everything is downhill.
