1st world problem -Prop 30. It just so happens that 2012 was the year that I finally was able to get a liquid exit from 18 years in the game industry. I moved to Texas in May 2012. In November Prop 30 passed and now my CA tax bill is going up by 30% (10 -> 13%). This is a retroactive tax back to Jan 2012. Apparently retroactive taxes have been upheld by the Supreme Court. My specific question, is I was no longer a resident of CA at the time of this vote, would this law apply to me? If it does apply to me, why can't CA voters pass a law stating that all former residents of CA must pay 10% income tax?
