After the Berlin Wall fell and Poland became free, Poland championed banning tobacco to improve their people's health.
US big tobacco hired one of the big consulting firms to analyze Poland's pension systems.
They ended up persuading Poland, that while their heart was in the right place to save lives, that their economy just would not be able to thrive in a post cigarettes world.
In short, they need their workers to work, pay taxes and then get cancer and die as quickly as possible in retirement.
History. Repeats.
