I was looking at the latest C19 data for Austin, and I was distracted by the very low hospitalization rates for our Asian population. So I looked up our demographics by race, and threw it into a spreadsheet.
Of course, our black population is taking on the chin with almost 2x as many black citizens in the hospital after normalizing by demographic representation. Next up are hispanics at 1.4x. Our white population is enjoying a bit better than expected at 0.8x.
But check out our Asian population, normalized, just 1/10th the hospitalization rates.
Now, of course, I could only speculate about if this means anything. But I cannot help but think - wear your damn masks!
Other than being comfortable wearing masks as a routine method for controlling respiratory contagions, I cannot think of anything else that would explain this large of a difference?
