Certainly it is great political theatre, where only avowed pacifists would cringe on violence against the Assad regime.

But why now? It cannot be because Trump suddenly cares about muslim children. Perhaps the videos of babies gasping for breath as they died Trump judged to be too much and asked Putin for some optics?

No, I think Putin needs to keep upping his war machine as Russia is in a terminal economic tailspin from a contracting population, the chonically low oil prices and to simple difficulty of keeping an authoritarian regime running.

Putin needs the USA to attack expendable Russian client states in order to justify his next invasion in Eastern Europe.

Cheer all you want, but we just spent millions to break up an asphalt runway and at the same time blocking these same refugees.
