Happy Holidays and Warmest Cheers for a Great New Year for Everyone!
I feel so incredibly grateful and fortunate for a wonderful 2014.
I have never felt so happy in my life as in 2014. My family is healthy, our boys are excelling in school, music, martial arts, and are maturing rapidly into kick ass people and strong friends.
Kaiwen Lin has had a great year turning her hobby of knitting into a profession working at both Hill Country Weavers and at Bee Cave Games as a jack of all trades from marketing, localization to office admin. The stuff she creates is truly the work of an artisan. The verb knit seems to causal to describe her work.
Bee Cave Games is just soaring along from strength to strength, and every day I come to work, it is a deep privilege to work with such high quality people aligned on the same mission. I grow bolder and more confident from their strength every day. Nimai Malle is an incredible CTO with deep technological experience across all fields from graphics, tools, to servers, to web and mobile to database and networking, he can lead any technical team to any goal. Ken Williams is our general counsel, COO and a huge ball of passionate energy that can be applied to most any business problem - and on top of that he is most passionate about games at all levels.
Austin has been very good to us from BCG to homeschooling, to great food and beer!
Looking forward to the new year, I am eager to see the family level-up in the live action MMA MMO. I am curious how much food we will grow with the help of the *cough* many chickens and bees here in Bethkania. My woodworking skills are getting a little better, but still fast.
It has been great having my Dad out here for yule-time celebrations, and we took some nice hikes on Enchanted Rock and McKinnely State Parks.
Kyle is now materially taller than his mom, and both Kyle and Max are totally legit handymen in their own right helping get our countless projects around the house completed each weekend.
I am really looking forward to seeing the new person Greta and Karl are creating out of pure love and happiness!
My dear friend Tia in New Zealand is also creating a magical new person, and I would love to meet that little one in the future.
Very excited by David Bettner’s bicycle racing skills growing by leaps and bounds - can’t wait to see how he does this coming season.
It was great having my oldest mentor Trish Wright come and visit me, and our epic talks on Rainy Street.
Very grateful to my friends Patrick and Adam recently taking off from MGAM - very classy guys and forever friends of BCG.
All of our investors in BCG who are incredibly warm and supportive of our mission in casino and they advice, help and candid discussions are an intimate foundation of our success.
I am hoping Max’s new swimming pool helps his back, and would like to get together with him soon.
Very curious to see where DK lands.
Always excited by the entrepreneurialism of Ian.
Love the strength of Roadhouse led by my good friend James Hursthouse!
It was very cool seeing Takuto in SFO again this year - incredible.
I miss all my old friends in Korea.
Sailing last July through the Leeward Islands with the Corn and Malle families of course is a luxury and experience beyond words. Channing Corn is the best first mate a captain could have on a boat anywhere, anytime.
I am looking forward to each conversation with Michael Steele and I am confident together we will nudge the future a little bit better.
I am really surprised and pleased how much as a family we have gotten into the mixed martial arts led by Sensei John Roberson. I am 15 pounds lighter, stronger, did the Spartan Sprint, won some medals at the team PKC event, and I am looking forward to the marathon 80-round event later in January! We go 4 times a week from 6-9pm between the junior and adult classes and while that is a huge time commitment somehow I feel more energetic, more calm, and somehow more time effective - could be psychosomatic but I also feel stronger in my job at BCG.
I am looking forward to algebra, trig, and more calculus with the boys, pushing more with Python and robotics, and eager to blow something up in the home chem lab.
I have two killer batches of beer I will brew this weekend, and I am very excited by my new solar array on the roof!
I am very excited by the work being done behind the scenes at Pony Pals to grow that wonderful experience for girls.
Michael Todorovic remains the most healthy guy I know that gives death the finger casually.
It is really cool to know about all my friends who have stealth startups and I am excited to there stuff come to life!
I do post a lot of stories on politics and economics and much of it is negative in nature. And I am not always seeking the most comfort-making in my comments. It is just that I feel incredibly privileged and lucky that I am enjoying this life - I feel a sharp obligation to push to make the world a little better. Hopefully my discussions do something good, and beyond that I do contribute a fair amount to charities, and I am looking for ways to give back more. Ultimately, despite all of the challenges facing the world and its people, I am an optimist, and I post this stuff because I believe we can make change happen, and the future is ours to create.
I apologize in advance to all of my great and warm friends that I missed in this rambling note.
Love you all, and I hope for you to all have the best possible of everything in 2015!
Raising a nice craft IPA and saluting all of you great people!
Cheers to all of you!
