Here is a shot from the cockpit of Ad Astra last night. I chatted with these two fisherman as I came back from a late afternoon kayak paddle in heavy rain north around the point here to the next bay.
It is amazingly beautiful here: high volcanic cliffs studded with cacti, palms and jungly stuff. Hundreds of placid boobies (birds) hanging out on the cliffs watching as you paddle by, some cool sea caves, and great booming crashes when the waves hit certain rock bowls just right. And then of course a big dreamy rainbow.
So much wildlife here: a small friendly black songbird is common, dragonflies hangout on the fiberglass, frigates and pelicans soaring and hunting, and occasionally a jack fish will jump 15 feet out of the water in a huge arc. As I paddled around the corner I felt like I was in some sort of Jurassic Park experience...
Now, we are off to Pigeon Island 8nm to the south....
