Interesting thought:
Much of the metal in your daily life is metal from an asteroid.
Why?
Because when the Earth was formed, as you know, it was heated by gravitational contraction to the point that rock and ore was molten. And the core is still molten to this day from this heat. The molten mixtures of elements naturally allowed the heavier elements to sink, and the lighter elements to rise. Eventually the Earth cooled enough to produce the silicon dioxide dominated crust.
The deposits with veins of metal are either the remaining splash damage from an asteroid impact or the volcanic regurgitation of heavier metals from below the crust.
We have been an asteroid mining civilization for thousands of years!
