Facebook from 2012+ has been like the great super flashlight has been turned on. It has given all of your friends, family and co-workers a megaphone declare their views. Sometimes we make new friends, sometimes we learn new stuff.
Much of the time we argue. Most of the time we throw angry memes back and forth.
But sometimes, sometimes, it becomes to too clear, too loud and their misogyny, bigotry, sexism, racism, or any other hate-anti-ism just cannot be ignored any longer.
No longer can you just take another sip of your wine or beer at the christmas party and back away and hope to find another conversation on the latest phone or sporting event.
On these rare occasions, you can finally be at peace with yourself and say that person is broken. Maybe they are good at other things. Hopefully they do not actively harm a member of that minority class, but even their views cause harm as it seeps into the very fabric of our society and our economy.
You can finally put a pin in it, and just say, I am done. Social Media is greatly accelerating this giant shakeout. Yes we are going to be more politically correct going forward. Yes, they will have a much smaller social network if they continue to hate and oppress a minority group. At some point, they will be fringe. And at some point their views will not have the social capital to have the power to cause harm anymore.
