Yesterday was Kyle's 14th birthday!
As I type this note, he is taking a boxing lesson on top of the MMA. He is taller than his mom, has just about a 6-pack, and is strong. He simply is not a kid anymore.
He is also one of the gentlest, thoughtful people I know. He has way more patience than I do. He takes care of little kids at the dojo with happiness, is an excellent older brother, and a great, great son. I couldn't be happier with both Kyle and Max.
Of course the time is going by so fast. I almost wish I could do a restart and be a better father and spend more time with both of them - I would do it all so much better! But selfishly, I just really want to spend more time with them because they make me so happy when we hang out.
But no restarts. Really I am looking forward to seeing what he does with his life. I have a few more years where I can still teach him stuff, but he is already close to escape velocity.
I am forever in the debt of Kaiwen Lin, without her, of course no Kyle and Max. But besides the biology, they are who they mostly because of her, as she has spent the most time with them. I don't know what English words in what sequence express the gratitude and bonds I have with Kaiwen.
Kyle!
