Alright. The plutocrats just transferred $1.5 trillion from us to them.
We no longer have any effective form of representative government - republic, democratic or whatever your aspirations - we just have fractional feudalism.
In the past when things got out of control we had revolts, violent ones with pitchforks and torches - guillotines as well.
We worship order so much that we allow police to kill 1500 of us a year on the off chance that they might stop a crime, yet only 40% of murders are solved, 3% of rapes result in a conviction and for every $5 of stolen property we spend $200 on law enforcement.
I just do not see how it gets better.
We are far too comfortable, even the poorest of us are far more comfortable than the abject starving people of Paris at the French Revolution.
I think the 0.01% controlling the GOP made a great strategic play of realizing that rationality, science, long term planning and just plain truth are all irrelevant to just plain winning and taking all.
We could vote in favor of the Democratic party, but we already do with millions of more votes but it does not matter due to gerrymandering, courts, and just plain voter suppression.
We could protest, but we have 200 fellow citizens now facing 60 years to life for simply being near the inauguration day protests of Trump, and we do nothing about it.
I think it has to get a lot worse.
We are going to need the evangelical Christians to be burned by the GOP. When they are manifestly screwed (beyond the already 3rd world stats they are posting now) - but screwed so bad that their pastors can no longer paper over the bullshit, then *maybe* something can change.
But can it? Look at China with ubiquitous cameras, facial recognition, full net censorship, what can the GOP not do under the guise of safety?
This tax bill has bummed me out. A comic book villain could not write a worse, more evil bill on a napkin.
The economy has been on red hot growth for the last 9 years, it is *going* to contract, it has too. The fundamentals supporting growth are missing. The middle class is losing spending power. So we will have a correction. Without revenues, we will need to print cash for sure. But that will not be enough, we will have to slash the entitlement programs, and that is exactly what the GOP has been planning for 3 decades.
Where is the Democratic strategy? Where is the sharp, combative counter-propaganda from the left? I do not see it.
2009-2018 will be the dead cat bounce, and we will need to hit a harder bottom for things to change.
We are going to need millions of Americans to default simultaneously on medical, student, credit card and housing debt for there to be a true correction. Asset prices are way too high, and incomes and savings rates are way too low.
And unlike FDR in the 30s, we cannot simply reverse this evil tax plan, as the cash is mysteriously "overseas" yet invested in American markets.
To fix this, we are going to need to make extraordinary and chaotic maneverus of nationalizing assets inside of the US and blocking capital movement. It will be horribly painful and destructive. Europe, China, and Asia will move ahead and we will needlessly fall behind. Completely a self-inflicted wound, but this time the 0.01% are confident that those with pitchforks will not be able to find their targets.
This is an extraordinary tough problem to solve. And there may not be a solution. Or the solution may involve asymmetric tactics. I do not think we can write essays to persuade reason.
If you have any good news, please let me know.
