This guy absolutely ROCKs!
After spending literally 18 hours at 5 different WIFI locations, and creating a USB key recovery stick - my Mac was still stuck on the black/white apple loading screen at 100% for hours and hours.
What was the solution?
Go into your Library/Extensions folder under terminal and create a new directory (call it Unsupported or whatever) and mv *.kext to that folder.
Basically, old extensions were not compatible with the new OSX update from Apple (very unlike Apple not to be able to handle this use case) and would cause it to simply freeze.
This fix took less than 5 minutes!
