NY Times had been billing me 2x for over 6 months for a digital subscription, and sheepishly I just noticed.
So I called them, they said "Oh, yes, we see that. We can cancel one for you."
I said, "Great, thank you. I would also like a credit for the months you double billed me."
They said, "Oh, no. we cannot issue any credits or refunds for digital subscriptions."
I said, "Okay. Please cancel both subscriptions."
They said, "Sure no problem, anything else I can help you with?"
At this point I am wondering how this human failed to see that they were losing a recurring revenue stream for no reason. If humans are going to be this inflexible, then with code at least you can bug fix these edge cases.
No I didn't escalate, it wasn't worth the brain damage to me.
