I wanted to talk a bit about the upcoming features for GoLand... this is our current main focus on the development team!

image image **Client Map and Legend ** The idea is that we are growing GoPets towards a world - a world that we are all creating together! This has been my dream as a game designer since 1994 when I entered the game industry. At my first job interview I said I wanted to work on a game where the users are helping create the world map.

If you look at the legend you will see a few interesting tidbits:

  • Resources
  • Dungeons / Points of Interest
  • Shops
  • Land for Sale
  • Teleport / No Teleport (Deki Nai is Japanese for thats not possible - read my Japanese bicycling stories for more on this)
  • X / Y on the main client map Resources - are where the raw materials for the crafting system will come from. Examples are pine and maple wood to be harvested from woods, rubies and granite from mines, and wild morel mushrooms. GoPets public lands will have these resources spawn periodically so users of the GoPets world will be rewarded for wandering about and exploring these locales.

Additionally, users who have purchased premium land spots will also have at least one resource node on their land. The current implementation of GoLand does not offer very much for the owners. To reward those faithful and patient folk who purchased land already we will upgrade them into premium land automatically when that day comes.

Dungeons / Points of Interest - these are areas built to attract users into a single spot for some sort of organized activity. These could be a tropical refreshment stand, to a haunted house, a dark forest, a sushi garden, a day spa, and so on. They will be called out on the map as a guide for users to be able to find them more easily.

**New User Areas **- by next month we plan to have all new registered users land in what we call a new user area - or a new user town. This place will feature 3D shops hosted by GoPets directly. This will be the first real point of interest. Hopefully experienced users as well as new users will find it easy to meet each other there. Speaking of new users and land - the new idea is that you will be granted your first land when you reach level 10, until then you will wander about in the public spaces, new user areas and friend's places.

Teleport / No Teleport - all desktops will be made into true land on the map. At the time of transition to the new GoLand feature-set, all users who have not purchased GoLand will be granted land on the world map (although not in the most desirable neighborhoods - and without any resource nodes). Again all users who have purchased land will be upgraded to premium lands with resources (and an increased item limit).

Now that everyone has a true piece of GoLand, we will also be default set everyone's GoLand to be available to walk across and visit by anyone. The insides of your houses will be assumed to be private - but in short anyone could walk across your lawn. However, we will also put a Public/Private and Teleport / No Teleport options in the Land Controls dialog that was just released.

JumpStones - **These will act like bookmarks on your web browser. When you are GoVisiting somewhere, one of the new options in the house control will be to create a JumpStone. These will be placed is a special inventory storage box and any time you like click to Jump back again! All of your own GoLand and the New User Area will have JumpStones pre-created for inventory. In addition you will be able to IKU send these Jumpstones to a friend and a copy of the JumpStone will be sent to your friend and you will keep your own.

Cheers, -Erik

This looks REALLY cool!!! I can't wait! I don't think jumpspaces should cost money, though. Thats like paying money to have bookmarks in your browser! Anyway, it is still really cool!!!!!-KittyJuan (thats my GP ID)
