Wow, Trump is proposing to add $5 trillion to the national debt over the next 10 years via a massive set of tax cuts for the top brackets and for corporations.

To pay for these tax cuts he has decided to NOT figure out where the money will come from, but instead kicked the ball to Congress to figure out what deductions to eliminate to *hopefully* recover about $2.5 trillion of of this new debt.

However, he there is ONE deduction that he is proposing and considers the keystone: the elimination of the deduction for taxes paid to state and local entities from your federal taxes.

Yeah, that one. If you paid already $3,000 in state taxes, you deduct that from your federal taxes. This is the most basic and cornerstone of taxes. If you live overseas and pay taxes to another country you get to deduct those taxes before you have to pay federal taxes. Otherwise you would have to pay taxes twice.

Why would the leader of the GOP want people to pay taxes twice?

To punish CA, NY, NJ, and the other higher-tax Democratic states.

Those same states that produce a net positive flow of tax dollars that are being used to bail out Texas and Florida and prop up the entire red-state belt via prok military and prison projects. Yeah, those blue states will need to pay taxes 2x, because they have the audacity to prepare for their own state's needs.

This is just civil war by other means.
