The Legendary Doña Sauce Hat

The Legendary Doña Sauce Hat

Doña Sauce Hat

This morning at Taco Deli on South Lamar, while waiting for my usual breakfast tacos - Potato, Egg, and Cheese - I witnessed and participated in an interesting negotiation.

In front of me in line were a pair of typical looking tech bros. One of them said to the cashier, "Hey, my Dad loves the Doña Sauce. I would like to buy a hat."

She just smiled and shook her head saying, "Oh, sorry these are not for sale, staff only."

He looked defeated and glanced at his buddy for help.

I suggested from the back of the line, "Hey, you should have asked her how much to lose the hat."

The old man in front of me turned around with a wicked smile, "There you go, that's how you do it!"

The cashier looked at me with a very small smile and a twinkle in her eye. Now I knew it was just a question of how much to lose the hat.

The tech bros wandered off, and I got to the front of the line and paid for my tacos.

I showed her 3 twenty-dollar bills and said, "How about 60?"

She smiled and said "For real?"

I nodded, and she said "hang on a second."

A minute later she came back and lost her hat to my hand with the 60.

The tech bros' order arrived and we passed through together. I turned to him and said "Turns out it was only 60."

He chuckled awkwardly and said "seriously?"

I smugly walked to my truck with a new artifact - the Doña Sauce hat!
